Devin

Stay close to home and do what, Jason wondered. While Devin's penthouse was certainly no prison, there were admittedly times the walls seemed to be inching closer. His world had gotten awfully small the past few weeks—work and home and Devin.

And now Devin was avoiding him.

Oh, for the love of God. Stop feeling sorry for yourself!

Tired of hearing himself whine—even if only inside his head—Jason decided to put an end to it, and instead make use of this unexpected privacy. He was going to do something he wouldn't have felt comfortable doing if Devin had been around.

He was going to play detective.

Pouring himself a cup of coffee and dosing it liberally with sugar and cream, he took it back inside his bedroom and got on his computer. Accessing the web, he typed in his browser's search box:

"Devin Blair" AND (Joanna OR Joannah OR Jo Anna)

Ever since Mike had first mentioned the name of Devin's ex, Jason had been curious about her. Devin didn't strike Jason as someone who would race to the altar. So he wondered what kind of woman might have tempted Devin to take that very serious step.

It wasn't long before Jason knew.

To say he was surprised was an understatement.

He may have entered into the search engine more information about Devin than he had Devin's former bride. But when the results came up, they were all about her.

Joanna. Joanna Dempsey.

"Oh, crap," Jason muttered, his eyes going wide.

He knew who she was. The entire galaxy knew who she was. Fashion icon, glamour queen, Academy Award nominated actress. Devin had been married to her? That curvy little blonde bombshell? If that was Devin's type, it was no wonder he wasn't interested in forming a deeper attachment to his tall, dark-haired decidedly male bondmate. Jason was practically the direct opposite of Devin's ex.

If she's what you're attracted to, why did you choose me? Why did you choose a man at all?

Joanna must have really done a number on Devin when they'd split. Maybe it had been enough to put Devin off women for good, or at least until his heart had mended.

How long had they been divorced?

It took Jason awhile to find that information. While adding "divorce" to his query brought up references to the end of Devin's marriage, it wasn't until Jason clicked on the link to a story about a vacation Joanna had taken that he got the details.
